Another type of button cell is the CR cell, which is a lithium manganese dioxide battery. The initial discharge of the CR cell is higher than that of the BR cell, but should be phased out as the cell ages.
For this reason, BR batteries are often used in electronics where life is important, such as cell phones and laptops. However, CR batteries are inexpensive and therefore popular in devices such as smoke detectors, bathroom scales, watches and calculators.

3V CR2032 lithium-manganese battery is a lithium-manganese dioxide battery, the cathode material is manganese dioxide which is chemically stable, the cathode material is lithium metal, the electrolyte is solid salt or salt dissolved in organic solvent, shaped like a button, referred to as lithium button battery or lithium-manganese button battery.
CR2032 lithium button battery has the advantages of high specific energy, long storage period, small self-discharge, safe use, wide working temperature range, etc. The battery can work normally in the range of -20~+70℃.

In general not demanding situations, a one-to-one substitution is fine in terms of electrical parameters, and even larger capacities can be obtained.
However, for example, for car keys, due to the height limitation of the battery box, using a 2032 replacement 2016 with a larger thickness will not cover the key cover.

Each CR battery has four unique numerical numbers. These four numbers indicate the thickness of the battery itself. When you look at the CR2016 and CR2032, the CR2016 is 1.6 mm thick and the CR2032 is 3.2 mm thick. The last two numbers on any CR battery will tell you the thickness (in millimeters).
The CR 2032 has a capacity of 240 mAh, while the CR2016 has a capacity of only 90 mAh. Of course, the CR2032 can provide 10 hours of use, while you will only get about 6 hours from the CR2016, depending on the power supply used.
CR2016 has a voltage of 3V and a capacity of about 75mah, while CR2032 has the same voltage of 3V but a capacity of about 200mah, so it is twice as thick as CR2016.
Since the CR2016 battery has a shorter life cycle, you can find it in things that don't consume much power, such as calculators and watches. Typically, CR2016 batteries can handle the low power requirements of such products and last for months or even years. items such as PC motherboards, car remote controls, bank card readers and toys are used in CR2032 batteries.
