Shanghai Biochip Co., Ltd. was established in August 2001. The company consists of 11 universities and research institutes in Shanghai's domestic life sciences and biotechnology fields, including Shanghai Venture Capital Co., Ltd., Shanghai Institute of Life Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fudan University. The hospital and the enterprise were jointly established with a total investment of 290 million yuan. In February 2003, the National Development and Reform Commission approved Shanghai Biochip Co., Ltd. to construct and operate the “Biochip Shanghai National Engineering Research Center” project and officially named it.
